Electro Mechanical Systems Ltd has been part of our portfolio for over ten years, so we were delighted when they came back to us for their second site. We’ve supported their brilliant team with their website, hand-built CMS, and product database for the last decade, and this was the perfect opportunity to take everything we’d learned together and give it a fresh new start.
Times change, technology evolves, and content definitely changes when you’re adding to it every couple of weeks for ten whole years. The decision was made to refresh the website design and user experience, and to build a brand new CMS that gives the team greater ability and flexibility to create more engaging landing pages.
The design brief resulted in keeping the logo and core branding elements such as colours and key fonts, but EMS called for a subtle modernisation of the site design so that returning customers would instantly recognise the website.
We started by re-examining the branding, introducing a subtle but effective change to the complementary colour palette and swapping the paragraph font. We carefully considered existing documentation, presentations, and other branded items to make sure we weren’t introducing any unnecessary changes elsewhere.
The biggest visible change comes next – the website structure and page designs.
Our main objective was to share a better balance in favour of EMS’ solutions and problem-solving capabilities. The previous site has more emphasis on individual products, but we wanted to highlight both equally, showing products and how they support the solutions EMS’ brilliant team are able to produce.
Both teams reviewed website copy together, consolidating content especially from some of the deeper level pages with low word count. We re-wrote important sections of the site to make them more engaging and informative.
The new responsive website designs deliver a fresh modern look, and result in engaging media-rich pages that readers spend more time exploring.
During the process, EMS remarked that they hadn’t realised how much the site would benefit from a refresh until they saw the new one. They were blown away by how drastically modernised the new site felt while staying completely on brand and instantly recognisable.
